Dayna Nelson, PsyD, LP, is a licensed psychologist with expertise in pediatric psychology, psychological assessment, and the treatment of trauma. She has over 20 years of experience treating children, adolescents, families, and adults of all ages. Dr. Nelson uses a holistic approach considering the whole person’s mind, body, and spirit. She incorporates evidenced based treatments, faith-based counseling, and trauma informed interventions, including EMDR.
Dr. Nelson received her Psy.D. with an emphasis in Family Psychology, from Azusa Pacific University in Southern California in 2001. She received her B.S. in Business Administration from San Diego State University in 1992.
Dr. Nelson has worked and trained in many different settings with culturally diverse populations including a psychiatric hospital, the Violence Intervention Program at Los Angeles County, USC Medical Center, St. Johns Child and Family Development Center in Santa Monica, Santa Ana College, and she worked with foster youth in Los Angeles County. She became a licensed psychologist in California in 2002 and began her private practice. She received specialized training and experience in forensic psychology, and was a contract psychologist at a California Men’s Colony. Her family relocated to Shreveport, LA in 2009, where she worked in a group practice in the community. Dr. Nelson conducted child custody evaluations and was an expert witness in Caddo Parrish, LA until she and her family finally settled in Texas in 2014. In addition to her private practice, Dr. Nelson also enjoys spending time with her family, serving in the community, and she is currently a Member-at-Large on the Collin County Psychological Association (CCPA) Board.
